Tampere, Finland, February 29th 2016 – Independent game developer 10tons Ltd. announced today a brand new vertically scrolling shoot’em up game Xenoraid. The game will be released in 2016 for Xbox One via the ID@Xbox program, Playstation 4, Playstation Vita, and PC.
“The core gameplay of Xenoraid has been very fun with just the right amount of novelty since the earliest prototype. I’m excited to see the game take shape and I can’t wait to bring the game to gamers later this year.” said Tero Alatalo, CEO of 10tons Ltd.
“I believe there is demand for shmups rooted in the classic, pre-bullet hell era gameplay. And that doesn’t mean it has to be decidedly retro. Xenoraid is hitting these targets dead on.” said Jaakko Maaniemi, Xenoraid team lead.
Xenoraid is a vertically scrolling shoot’em up with minimal bullet hell traits. The game emphasizes deliberate shooting and thrilling action with fresh features. The player fighters turn lightly when moving left and right, allowing shooting in angled directions. A weapon overheat system and limited heavy weapon ammo capacity reward controlled blasting. Enemies are spawned procedurally, making each play session unique.
Key strategies in Xenoraid include switching fighters during mission as required by the dynamic action, and bringing fighters back to base to fight in the next missions. Full widescreen format is used as play area.
Xenoraid is set in the year 2032, when a small fleet of extraterrestrial starships enters the solar system and attacks immediately. Lacking purpose built starfighters, humans quickly arm existing spacecrafts with machine guns, missiles, grenade launchers and more. Space agencies, armed forces and private companies from all nations join forces to defend Earth.
